I grew up combing Vancouver Island beaches with my dad, filling buckets with mussels that shimmered like jewels. That curiosity—how could something so dark be so full of color and life?—still drives my work. While studying mussels for another project, this painting emerged, evolving into a nautical tableau that feels both nostalgic and new.
